I used to work in a supermarket so I learned a lot about "use by" and "best before" dates. Although I do waste a lot of food because no one eats it I don't throw it out just because it has reached it's sell by date especially as best before will always go much longer. I usually freeze anything that has reach it's use by date.

My mum used to eat yoghurt that was way out of date which I didn't approve of but she was never ill on it! They were much more thrifty in her day after being rationed in war times.

I look on the label but I never take in consideration. I have eaten and drank a lot of out of date pruducts such as milk, yogurt, juice, sodas, cookies, bread I can go on and on.....

Impressive, I would still and am still throwing out any fresh dairy products that goes over as they usually get moldy straight away. In fact I find a lot of them are spoiled before they even reach the expiry date.

Came across this article today https://globalnews.ca/news/4243521/best-before-date-food-waste/ and must admit, that I've thrown out food myself because I thought the best before label meant my food would be spoiled or even rotten if I didn't eat it by this date. Will definitely be more mindful of this going forward.
I have a box of couscous from almost a year ago. Will use it anyway. Don't think anything is wrong with it. Just totally forget about it in the back of my kitchen cabinet. I'll just boil the heck out of it cause I don't like wasting perfectly good food.

I learnt this from those environment activist. They have very big argument on the bakeries always clear off the bread on shelf before closing of business daily while there are so many refugees who need food badly outside. And, same thing on those foods in the supermarket would throw away when reaching the expiry but still be consumed.
Thus, it's advisable to buy those expired but best before food, but my personal advise is better check the condition of food if it's still safe to be consumed if not, diarrhea. :p

Agree, I try to consume the food before the expiry date for enjoying the best quality of the food, and eat my vegetables when it is fresh. And, I did still consume those food after expired but still in good quality, i.e the best before date, but there is not best before date stated for the food sold on rack here, I just assume they are okay.
The most effective way to avoid not able to finish the food before expiry or best before day is not to stock up too much food. :p
