Buying from the grocery store is essential if you want to save money. Groceries are cheaper compared to restaurant foods that’s why some who are economical, clip coupons and use rewards to buy their groceries. Speaking of rewards, did you know that you can get rewards from your grocery receipt? All you need to do is go to the grocery store, buy your needed items, and pay for it. You will get a cashback reward for the purchases you just made. How are you going to do that? It’s called Snap.

Snap is an app powered by Groupon, and we all know what Groupon is, right? They provide us coupons of all sorts and these great deals from special discounts to freebies. Now, they offer Snap, which is somewhat a cashback type of app. You don’t have to do anything special. Just buy the groceries that you normally buy, and that’s it.

How Snap Works

You can use Snap on your Android and iOS device. If you’re from the United States or in Canada, you can participate in this cashback system. Follow these three steps for a sure approval:
  1. You have to install the Snap app on your Android or iOS mobile device.
  2. Take a clear picture of your grocery receipt. The items you purchased must be readable in that receipt because it will confirm that you’re buying groceries.
  3. Each receipt has a corresponding rewards amount. When you reach $20, you can now cash out your reward.
That’s it! There are no other things to do but those three steps.

Now, you wonder, why do I have to wait until my rewards reach $20 before I can cash out? Look at it this way – before knowing about Snap app, did you receive any rewards at all for your grocery purchase? Did the grocery store give you $20 after multiple purchases from them?

Let’s say you used your credit card with cashback rewards, and then, you also used your grocery card for grocery rewards in that store. If you used Snap app, you can still get rewards. Instead of having no rewards at all, you can get at least one with Snap app! (This is assuming you’re not using your cashback credit card and grocery store membership card.)

Groupon has specific items that they sponsor under Snap and these items are the ones earning you your rewards.

More Details About Snap

The sponsored items from Groupon is a mystery. We don’t know what these items are and with that, we can’t pick it out. Just buy what you normally buy and the rewards will just come.

For instance, you bought laundry soap and assuming that is a sponsored item, you will get a $1 reward. The rewards are usually in flat rate, but if you buy a brand specific soap like “Mr. Clean” or “Tide” (sponsored by Groupon), then, you will get an additional reward for that.

As mentioned earlier, the items are a mystery. We don’t know what it is and so far, the product categories are varied. Just buy what you always buy and take a picture of the receipt. What else is there to lose right? You have everything to gain and nothing to lose if you buy the sponsored item, something that you are already buying even without the rewards.

At times, Snap will also provide rewards coming from Amazon purchases. If you are an Amazon frequent buyer, you can use this to your advantage.

What’s The Downside To This?

Some people view this as a downside, but as I see it – there is no disadvantage if you follow the rules. First off, you’ve been buying groceries without rewards. This in itself is a benefit for you. Some say that it’s a hassle to take pictures of the receipts. Hey, it’s simple. If you want to earn rewards, take a picture and upload to Snap. If you don’t want rewards, then, don’t take a picture. No one is forcing you to earn money.

At times, the offers have an expiry date. You might miss out on a reward if you are delayed in sending the images. It’s ok – there are more offers to come. But if you are keen on getting all of it, I suggest, after buying your groceries, snap the picture right away. It won’t take you a minute to do that.

Can I Use Coupons?

There’s no rule that prohibits you from using coupons in relation to earning Snap rewards. In fact, it can increase your savings which is a good thing.

How To Get Paid

Groupon will send you a check for your rewards. For some, they like check payments because Paypal can eat up the rewards in transfer fees.

Inactive Member

If you are not snapping pictures, make sure that you clear out your rewards. 12 months of inactivity can merit a deduction from your rewards balance.

More Ways To Earn In Snap

You can earn more rewards if you refer a friend or a loved one. They have a referral system and Snap will add $1 to your rewards balance for every friend that you refer to join the program. If you refer 20 friends to use the app, you will get $20! That’s enough for you to cash out on your rewards.

Not Limited To Mobile Phones

If you have a tablet, you can use it to install Snap and take pics of receipts.

OUR VERDICT: Scam or Legit?

Snap is a 100% LEGIT app. It is powered by Groupon and it will pay you $1 for a mystery sponsored item that is on your grocery receipt. It’s not complicated to do at all. Buy your groceries, keep the receipt, take a picture of it on the Snap app, and press send. That’s it. If you qualify, you will earn $1 for each item, at least. It won’t make you rich, but at least you’ll get a cashback from your groceries which is pretty cool! You can consider it your savings.

Thanks for the review, but moved to "Unrated" as the app no longer seems to be in existence. If anyone knows why this happened, please comment below.
